The Lazio transfer ban could potentially be lifted in January if the Biancocelesti are able to sell Christos Mandas.

Returning head coach Maurizio Sarri was unable to strengthen his side in the summer after the ban was imposed sortly after his appointment. Naturally, that caused tensions with the club’s board.

However, Sarri stayed and persevered with his current crop of players. Now, there is a strong possibility that Lazio will be able to trade as normal in the winter if Mandas is moved on.

Lazio Transfer Ban

When the Lazio transfer ban was imposed, head coach Maurizio Sarri’s future became unclear. The Biancocelesti were punished by COVISOC owing to three major failings.

They were confirmed as extended labor costs, debt and the liquidity index. Understandably, that made Sarri’s immediate future uncertain but now, he could be able to make signings in January.

A lot will hinge on a number of outgoings that will help the Serie A side balance the books. Ideally, Sarri doesn’t want to lose his best players but may be forced to in order to draft in his preferred targets.

Earlier this month, it was reported that club president Claudio Lotito was angling towards taking out a loan. However, Lotito will not need to go down that road if swift player sales can be achieved.

Christos Mandas Transfer News

The solution to Lazio’s financial problems and subsequent transfer ban potentially lies in the form of Christos Mandas. Although a fans favorite after a strong second-half to the 2024-25 campaign, the goalkeeper has lost his place under Maurizio Sarri.

In fact, the Biancocelesti head coach is not a fan of the Greek international so it makes sense to move him on. As it stands, English Premier League side Wolves are a likely destination.

The Old Gold have just one point to their name this season so activity in January looks very likely. Vítor Pereira’s side will have funds to spend as they bid to preserve their top-flight status.

As it stands, a bid in the region of €20million will be sufficient to start negotiations with Lazio. The would give the Serie A side a €19m profit which will massively help their cause.

Who Could Lazio Sign In January?

Presuming the Lazio ban is successfully lifted in January via the sale of Christos Mandas and other players, who could Maurizio Sarri bring to the Stadio Olimpico?

Naturally, rumors have been rather quiet but there have been reports of interest in Wout Faes. The Belgian defender has been with Leicester since 2022 but could be sold to help raise funds.

Former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne is also understood to be on Sarri’s radar. The 34-year-old is currently on the books of MLS side Toronto.

Other names that have previously been mentioned include Jan-Carlo Simic, Valentin Atangana and Konstantinos Karetsas.
