
PRIOR LAKE, Minn. — Max Cullen scored twice and Moorhead hung on after a flurry of goals early in the third period to beat Cretin-Derham Hall 4-3 on Thursday in the Tradition Holiday Invitational boys hockey tournament.
Zac Zimmerman and Brandon Mickelson scored 94 seconds apart in the third period for the Spuds. Between those tallies, Will Thonvold capitalized for the Raiders to make it a 3-2 game.
Alexander Bloedow pulled C-DH within a goal at 10:47 of the third but Moorhead goaltender Will Arnold shut the door from there.
Arnold finished with 21 saves while Ernie Drury had 20 for the Raiders.
Both teams were 0 for 2 on the power play.
Moorhead (10-1-0) faces Shakopee in the second round at 5 p.m. Friday. It will close out the tournament with a noon game Saturday against St. Thomas Academy.
