Shock move in the transfer window: Juventus target Icardi

With just hours remaining before the winter transfer window closes, several clubs are stepping up their efforts to strengthen their squads.

One of them is Juventus, which could be involved in one of the most eye-catching and surprising moves of the window by signing a former Barcelona academy player.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Elio Letterio Pino, the agent of Mauro Icardi, has traveled to Istanbul in an attempt to persuade Galatasaray to allow the Argentine striker to join the Turin side on loan until the end of the season.

Coincidentally, Juventus are set to face the Turkish club in the Champions League playoff for a place in the round of 16.

Icardi, 32, is under contract with Galatasaray until June and has scored 10 goals this season, nine in the Turkish league and one in the Turkish Super Cup.

He has yet to score in the UEFA Champions League. He joined the Istanbul club in 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain.

If the deal goes through, it would mark Icardi’s third stint in Serie A, having previously played for Sampdoria and Inter.

He would also be reunited with Luciano Spalletti, who famously stripped him of the captain’s armband at Inter during a turbulent period in the locker room.

Spalletti is reportedly keen on adding a true No. 9 during this winter window, and Icardi is one of the options under consideration.

According to the Italian outlet, the Italo-Argentine striker fits the profile Juventus are looking for to bolster their attack.
