Imps stay second thanks to Reach’s glowing form in-front of goal

Adam Reach’s effort was able to keep Lincoln City just three points behind Cardiff City at the top of the table after a 1-1 draw to Huddersfield Town.

With the new year in full swing, a new opportunity presented itself for the Imps to continue their impressive run of form against Huddersfield Town in Sky Bet League One.

Early doors Freddie Draper had a chance to open the game up for the Imps. Unfortunately, the young man couldn’t quite connect with the ball.

Just a minute later with six minutes showing on the clock, Adam Reach had a great run out wide and was able to reach Rob Street in the centre, he then laid it off to Reeco Hackett who again just couldn’t quite get the right footing on the ball, sending it over the bar above the head of Lee Nicholls’ in goal.

So far in the first half, it was Lincoln’s match to be won with Huddersfield being poor in the midfield. Lost balls found their way into the feet of the Imps with relative ease.

Alfie May for Huddersfield was almost gifted an opportunity to make it a scoring game. A rare aerial mistake by Sonny Bradley saw the Imps’ defence darting back with the centre-half managing to cover his own messed up tracks and make right clearing the ball away.

20 minutes in and Ivan Varfolomeev channelled his inner Reach some may say. The Ukrainian’s uncontested effort from 30 yards out was collected by Nicholls in goal.

Bradley becomes a momentary hero for the Imps supporters as he is able to clear a shot off of the line in the 32nd minute of the game.

Referee Jamie O’Connor blew his whistle to signal the end to the first half of action.

A quieter second period

It took a while for the game to get back properly into the swing of things but eventually the visitors took the lead. May’s effort inside the box was parried out by George Wickens in goal but landed perfectly for Leo Castledine who placed the ball behind the line in the 62nd minute.

2 / 2

It quickly could have been another for the Yorkshire outfit when May found himself one on one with George Wickens just two minutes after the goal. Wickens’ gloves came in handy and was able to dispatch of the shot quickly.

It didn’t take long for the Imps to get back into things as Reach put his name on the scoresheet once again for the third time this season.

His effort from short range came after a corner which bamboozled Nicholls in goal in the 69th minute of play.

With five minutes left to play Lincoln where on the receiving end of continuous pressure with it all amounting to nothing. A dodgy free kick from the right-hand side summed up perfectly most of the opportunities the Yorkshire side had.

Dom Jeffries made his way onto the pitch with four minutes to play, in an effort to attempt to grab a late winner, he replaced Varfolomeev.

With that the game came to and end with the score being 1-1. This keeps the Imps second in the league, just 3 points of the leaders Cardiff City. It’s a short turnaround for Skubala’s next match up against Peterborough United on Sunday.
